Vive la Differentiation!

Encouraging research on stem cells continues to mount.

In testimony at a Senate hearing in June, researchers and patients described the therapeutic potential of adult stem cells, which the panel�s chair, Senator Sam Brownback (R: Kansas), has implied can offer medical advances similar to those of embryonic stem (ES) cell research without using what he calls “morally controversial techniques.” But just days later, the American Medical Association endorsed therapeutic cloning, a controversial way to create ES cells, and attested to the need for more ES cell lines.
