A Crack in the Window
Biotech investors are back. Sort of.
Its official: the biotech industry is on the cusp of a financing boomlet. Through early October, the Amex Biotechnology Index was up 50% from its 2003 low of 311.69 in March. Investors have poured more than $10 billion into public biotech firms this year by way of convertible and secondary offerings. And between August and October, 12 biotech companies filed to go public, in anticipation of an open window for initial public offerings in the fourth quarter.
