Deadlock over Proposed Cloning Ban Despite efforts from a coalition of 40 countries, led by the United States, it seems that the United Nations won�t pass a global ban on all forms of cloning anytime soon. Although everybody wants to ban reproductive cloning, there are mixed feelings about so-called therapeutic cloning for research purposes. Patients everywhere can be thankful that a rival group grasps the distinction.
Sanctity-of-Life Chronicles In his latest report, “Beyond Therapy: Biotechnology and the Pursuit of Happiness,” Leon Kass, the president�s bioethics guru, once again warns against biotechnologies run amok. He argues eloquently, if a bit breathlessly, that biotech threatens to alter humans and society in dangerous ways.
